Developing high-performing e-commerce stores, apps & websites that excite! || CEO @ excyted.io

Just two weeks ago, I posted about the missing native editing capability of metafields in the Shopify product dashboard. As of a few days ago, I have seen a new feature in multiple stores that addresses this issue, making it easier for merchants to access and edit product information. Great new addition by the Shopify team. #ecommerce #ux #shopify

A well-oiled migration process. Popular German oil manufacturer Öhlmühle Sauerland successfully migrated their store from Magento to Shopify. The entire process, from migration to the new Shopify store going live, took only 2 weeks. All the store data from the past 14 years, which included over 30,000 entities such as products, collections, orders, pages, customers, and reviews, was seamlessly transferred to ensure continuity. The minimal default dawn theme was used with small adjustments to keep the features from the Magento store. For instance, custom product attributes were converted to metafields providing extra info on the product detail page. Additionally, multi-level drop-downs were implemented in the header to keep the semblance of subcollections not natively supported in Shopify. #ecommerce #migration #magento #shopify

Why do you have to be a guru to edit metafields? I think Shopify should make it easier to add and edit meta fields for your entities. Take the product dashboard page for example. Currently, you have to use an extra app like Metafields Guru or the API to save additional info about a product you want to display on the storefront. Information such as the product's weight, ingredients, delivery time, etc., are crucial elements that should be incorporated on the product page, in addition to native attributes like the product name, description, and images. #ecommerce #shopify #ux

Custom-built vs App Store Shopify product configurators While Shopify store apps offer quick setup and affordability, custom options prioritize brand alignment and specific requirements. Both choices come with distinct advantages tailored to various business needs. Check out the full comparison in the blog post. #productconfigurator #ecommerce #shopify

Drapery configuration without the drudgery. This configurator for the Everhem Shopify shop does a great job at configuring drapery to custom requirements and visualizing it. 🟢 Lots of customization options 🟢 Helpful measurement tips throughout the configuration steps 🟢 The total price is visible at every step of the process and updates in real-time 🔴 The final configured product is currently not showing in the overview section When confirming the final step, the tool creates a new Shopify product with the selected specifications on demand via the Admin API and then adds it to the cart. This is a good technique for bespoke products where not every combination can exist as a product or variant in Shopify. #headlesscommerce #productconfigurator #shopify #customization

Is your Shopify store not passing Core Web Vitals? Resolving these issues can vary in complexity, but there are steps you can take right now to improve them. However, using third-party apps from the app store can have a significant impact on these scores. For more information, check out my most recent blog post on this subject. #corewebvitals #shopify #ux #shopifyapps

Consider these important points when migrating from Magento to Shopify Most data can be migrated from Magento to Shopify, but there are some things to be aware of. Products Shopify has a limit of 100 variants and 3 options per product. If you have more, you may need to split them into separate products. Collections Subcollections do not have native support in Shopify, so they will merge with their parent collection and lose their individual URLs. You can work with tags and custom menus to reestablish the appearance of subcollections. Customers Only customer information related to orders can be moved, not actual customer accounts. It's recommended to send a newsletter after migration to prompt customers to reset their accounts and passwords. Orders Refund status on orders will transfer correctly, but refund transaction dates will not migrate. This may affect sales reports as all refund dates will be recorded on the migration day. #ecommerce #datamigration #shopify #magento Data Migration Vectors by Vecteezy: https://lnkd.in/e4fZzr6R

This section in Alpina's store dedicated to room color impressions aims to facilitate users in selecting the right paint through various filters and direct links to corresponding product pages. One current problem is the poor performance when adjusting filters and slow loading times for images, which hinders quick navigation through filters. #ecommerce #ux

Many installed apps or plugins in a shop result in a poor Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) score. CLS is a critical aspect of Core Web Vitals that impacts search engine ranking. The lower the score the better. The CLS metric evaluates the movement of elements on a webpage post-loading, with minimal movement being the ideal scenario to prevent users from experiencing disruptions while reading content or interacting with links and buttons. Most installed apps load on page load. They send requests to servers to populate their widgets with data calculate their spot on the page and run animations. In this example, the sequence of events starts with the display of associated products, causing the existing content to shift downwards. Subsequently, the subscription feature appears on the side, leading to the displacement of the payment buttons. The introduction of the discount bundle application then results in the related products section being pushed away. Finally, the same application triggers a notification banner to slide in from the bottom, prompting the application of a discount. All this movement leads to a bad CLS score of 0.374 seconds and a total of 2.4 seconds until the site finally sits still. Integrating third-party app functionalities like these directly into the page can help mitigate these issues by allowing better control over page behavior and ultimately reducing the Cumulative Layout Shift to zero. #headlesscommerce #shopifyapps #cls #ux

Starting today your e-commerce vitals could fail. As announced Google added Interaction to Next Paint (INP) to the Web Core Vitals today replacing First Input Delay (FID). INP measures the responsiveness of a website to user actions such as clicking buttons and entering text. Web browsers keep track of user interactions and highlight the longest delay exceeding 200ms as the INP. To enhance your INP consider minimizing code size, optimizing complex calculations, and removing barriers that block other tasks from executing swiftly. #webcorevitals #ux #ecommerce

Shops with many reviews need an AI-generated review summary. I really like the feature in the review section of a Shopify app. I think implementing a similar feature in shops for products would greatly benefit shoppers by providing a quick overview of the advantages and disadvantages without the need to sift through numerous individual reviews. #ecommerce #reviews #ai #shopify
